Ryan Nyquist

As the 2004 ESPY Best Action Sport Athlete Winner, Ryan Nyquist seems to have it all. After winning nearly every street and dirt competition in the past three years, Nyquist has little more to conquer. But for Nyquist, the numerous awards haven’t dulled his desire to succeed; in fact, it has only fueled his fire. You could say Ryan Nyquist was born to ride. In fact, his name has become synonymous with the sport of BMX. Nyquist has been riding since the age of three and it doesn’t look like the multi X Games medalist is slowing down anytime soon. Ever since Nyquist entered his first freestyle contest at the age of 16, he has been addicted to the sport. And this addiction has helped him earn recognition from pros and fans alike being named the BMX Plus’ Dirt Jumper of the Year for 2004. Nyquist is truly a gifted and versatile rider. At one point in his career, he competed in all three disciplines of freestyle BMX: Dirt, Street, and Vert—an accomplishment that has been attempted by only a few riders.

The freestyle BMX world wouldn’t be the same without Nyquist, whose amazing talent and numerous accomplishments have etched his name in the BMX history books as one of the sport’s most consistent and progressive riders. His accolades are many; he has swept several competition series more than once including the Vans Triple Crown, LG Action Sports Championships, and King of Dirt contests. He consistently places in the top three in competitions worldwide and if that’s not enough, he has a handful of X Games and Gravity Games medals to boot.

Nyquist has made a name for himself both on and off his bike. He has a signature shoe with Adidas, trading cards, action figures, a signature series with Haro Bikes, and he’s a featured video game character in Dave Mirra Freestyle BMX 2. He’s been featured in numerous trade and mainstream magazines including, Ride BMX, Transworld BMX, Men’s Health, Sports Illustrated for Kids, and ESPN The Magazine. Nyquist has also starred in ESPN/Touchstone Picture’s IMAX movie “Ultimate X”; appeared as a special guest star on Disney’s “The Jersey”, and hosted Nickelodeon’s “Game And Sports Show” and “Slime Time Live” as well as appearing on “Fox News Live”.

What Nyquist enjoys most, however, is giving back to the community. He has helped make many “Wish Kids’” dreams come true through the Make-A-Wish Foundation and has been active with various charity organizations. Whether he is signing autographs or making hospital visits, Nyquist looks forward to making someone else’s day just a little brighter.

Take all the medals and cash prizes away and you will still find Nyquist on his bike. Ryan Nyquist’s number one love is BMX; lucky for him he is one of the best riders out there and success seems to follow him wherever he goes. Nyquist currently resides in Greenville, North Carolina.

Family, Friends and Riding in Greenville

Written by: Ryan Nyquist

Hey Everybody! It’s Ryan Nyquist here, just hanging out in Greenville for the time being. I was in Virginia visiting family this past week and decided to make the trip down to get some riding in. I’m always happy to come back to Greenville and ride with all my friends. That’s probably the biggest thing I miss now that I live in Northern California… that and The Unit. I swear that place is the most amazing park ever. I’m definitely a little biased, but the way that place flows and with all the different lines it has to offer, I just never get bored with it. I’ve been having some really good sessions too. Yesterday wasn’t so great though. I was in the process of filming a little web edit and crashed on something stupid. I slipped both pedals and when my left foot hit the ground, I got a pain in my knee that took me out for the rest of the day. I had a doctor look at it last night, and he said that he didn’t think it was anything major, but it still hurts a little bit.

So I guess I’m gonna just chill today, run a couple errands around town. Then make my way back up to Virginia to meet back up with my wife, son, and in-laws. Heading back to Cali on Monday morning. Hopefully by then my knee will feel better, and I can get back on the bike before the next Dew Tour Stop in Salt Lake City, Utah. I guess that it for now. Keep it ROCKIN’!!!!!!!!! Ryan Nyquis
