Update…

Written by: Simon Tabron

I’ve had a crazy couple of weeks; first, I got a call from Mat Hoffman asking me if I’d ride at the Grammys. Mat’s old friend Spike Jonze had recently directed a video for Arcade Fire and they wanted to recreate the bike riding from the video for their Grammy performance. Spike called Mat and they decided to have real bmxers instead of random people.
So, I found myself at the Staples center along with bmx legends Dave Voelker, Rooftop and Mat Hoffman. We rehearsed with the band for a couple of days and they worked out what they wanted us to do; essentially riding in circles and jumping a bit on an icy-slippery stage in no space with blinding strobe lights! It was a completely surreal experience but it all ended up going well as was a crazy once-in-a-lifetime experience.
There were so many crazy celebrities – Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, P Diddy, Eminem, Rhianna, just walking right past us in the hallways. Craziness!

Check out the bike I rode up for auction http://shop.ebay.com/hoffmanfundraisers/m.html

After the Grammys, I jumped in my car and whisked my girl off to Palm Springs for a surprise Valentine’s getaway.

By the time I got home, I was excited to ride and headed over to the ramp. About 25 minutes into my session, I missed my bars on a double barspin, landing no handed and looping out backwards. I hit the back of my head really hard and got knocked out. By the time I came round, I could feel insane pain in my foot and figured it was broken.
After a visit to Dr.Chao and some x-rays, it turned out that I had no breaks but he was suspicious that I had snapped a major ligament in my foot. 2 days later and I got my MRI results – NO LIGAMENT TEARS!!!!! Just a badly bruised bone.
So, 2 weeks in a boot and I should be good. feel like I dodged a bullet there!!!!!

So I’m really happy, I was scared that I was going to have surgery and 6 weeks off whereas now I’ll be back on my bike in about 2 weeks!

“This past weekend back home in Latvia Maris Strombergs and his Coach Ivo Lakucs gave a presentation in front of hundreds of aspiring children how life is like being the Olympic Champion living and racing BMX in the USA. Maris explained that it is possible for anyone to have dreams and goals and make them a reality and his plans for the next few years which include defending his Olympic title in London in 2012. The kids loved it.”

Australia Road Trip

Written by: Colin Mackay

Right now, part of the Haro team (Enarson, Nasty, Ronnie Naps and myself) are in Australia on a road trip riding, filming and visiting some Haro bike shop dealers.

We arrived in Sydney almost a week ago and so far it’s been a mix of beach, riding and chilling.
Australia’s a beautiful country and it’s just the start of summer so the weather is spot on.
We plan to make a DVD of our road trip, and we are shooting for a story in RIDEBMX and RebelYell.

Check back for another update soon,

X Games Update!

Written by: Simon Tabron

I’m finally back home after the craziness of the X Games.
Vert had a new venue this year, the Nokia theater, and it made a great stage for a wild contest.
I got worried when I saw the list for my Elimination round – a bunch of serious bad-asses – I was worried I wasn’t gonna make it. I needn’t have worried though as I made the final pretty easily.
The big show is always nerve-racking and I was feeling pretty exhausted after four 30 second long runs in prelims then four more in finals. I held it together pretty well though and, as the session clock ran out, I was tied for 2nd place. PHEW!!!!! Job done for another year!!!!!
Back to the ramp today, time to get ready for Portland Dew Tour in 10 days!!!

Thanks to everyone at Rockstar for all of the support!!!!
